Who Is Mr. Matrixx?

Mr. Matrixx knew he was destined to be a ground-breaking entertainer in the world of music.  His beliefs are centered around Love, Leadership and Service.  Born Ian McKay, to Jamaican parents and raised in Hempstead, NY, Mr. Matrixx embraced a variety of musical genres including Jazz, Hip Hop, R and B, Pop, Rock, Funk, as well as Classical, Chamber and Concert Band music to name a few.  As Matrixx grew, he found a home in sound system culture where he was inspired to express his creativity freely, and could easily connect to his people. Influenced by his parents love for music and his father’s deep Reggae Roots/Rockers and American Soul, Funk and Pop album collection, Mr. Matrixx decided that being a DJ was the best way for him to begin connecting to his culture and community while spreading and upholding his beliefs!

 

    Mr. Matrixx began his career as DJ Matrixx on a popular party and special events sound system based in Long Island New York.  There, he learned how to mix, MC and select music for all crowds to enjoy.  He traveled and performed in many places including Italy, Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands to name a few.  In 2009, as a result of his popularity and networking, he was asked by famous video director and photographer Anthony Mannion to be one of the lead roles in American R&B singer/songwriter Jazmine Sullivan Billboard #1 song “Need You Bad” music video. 

 In 2012, Matrixx stepped into his own and became the official DJ for Gap Inc.’s Brooklyn and Long Island Old Navy locations, where he performed for all store sales and marketing events. From 2012-2015, Matrix partnered with AppleBee’s Time Square to become the official New Year’s Eve party DJ where each year he performed in front of hundreds of people from all over the world.  In an attempt to positively affect change, Matrixx began performing for national and local community-based organizations such as Tidal Wave Youth Leadership Association, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and the National Urban League to name a few.  Each organization embraced Matrixx’s positive attitude, powerful voice and high energy performances. These experiences led him to work alongside and perform for some of the top leaders, and celebrities in American such as Marc Moriel- CEO of the National Urban League, Paul C Brunson, the author of American Best Seller “Its complicated” (But it doesn’t have to be), and MC Lyte, celebrity Radio/ TV host, legendary Hip Hop Artist. 

 Matrixx has also given electrifying performances in some of NYC’s hottest clubs such as Club Amazura, Greenhouse, Copacabana-760 Rooftop Stage 48, The Attic Rooftop and many others!  From 2014-2016, he was the house DJ at Brooklyn’s most popular party, Reggae Thursdays where he entertained hundreds of patrons weekly.   

Mr. Matrixx does it all! He is able to use his versatile methods to bring people together from all generations. As a Gala/Wedding MC and DJ, Matrixx pays special attention to detail.  He works hard to create the perfect environment through blending his high energy vibes, whit, and humor, with precision mixing and musical selecting, joy, and love.  He guarantees quality and satisfaction at the highest level! 

 His most rewarding accomplishment was founding DJ Matrixx LLC.  in Oct of 2015.  Through this company, Matrixx consistently uplifts, educates and entertains.  In 2016, Matrixx

partnered with Macy’s East- Herold Square, to perform for Macy’s Modern Man. This event taught young boys in under privileged communities how to properly dress and present a positive image of themselves through clothing and accessories.  In 2017, Matrixx performed as the official DJ for the Kwanza Krawl (Harlem location). This event kicks off the week-long celebrations of African culture in America and highlights love, respect and honor to all.  In 2018 Matrixx kicked off T.G.I.T , a weekly networking and gaming event for young professionals in the NYC area.  “I am here to keep people woke! I am here to have a pulse on culture and be a culture changer. I want to live my life dedicated to improving culture- serving others and spreading love to all mankind!”
